Our Attic restoration & Clean Up Service

Video Transcript

If wildlife such as bats, birds, racoons, squirrels, and mice have decided to make your attic their “home away from home,” you obviously need to have them removed in a safe, effective, humane and legally compliant manner, and you also need to implement exclusion techniques that ensure they (or their friends) do not return sometime in the future.

However, there is another piece of the puzzle that is critically important if nuisance wildlife have left a trail of urine, feces, fur, etc. in their wake, or if they have inflicted structural damage: you need to reclaim your attic. Fortunately, that is where our comprehensive attic restoration service will help!

Our Process

At ARMADILLO WILDLIFE, we have more than 20 years of experience helping families get back their attic — and their peace of mind. Our attic restoration service is built on a proven process that includes the following key phases:

Phase 1: We start by performing a thorough, end-to-end inspection of your attic to assess damage to insulation and structure. It is extremely important to do a full visual inspection instead of just relying on odors, because in some cases attics will not start to emit a nauseating smell for quite some time — even though the insulation is riddled with feces, urine, and so on.

Phase 2: Once we have completed our thorough inspection, we put together a customized action plan that might recommend spot cleaning if the damage is relatively minor, or a full attic restoration if the damage is more severe and poses a threat to your family’s safety and the structural integrity of your home. For example, squirrels are notorious for eating wood in order to keep their constantly-growing teeth short and sharp, while birds and racoons often destroy vents, shingles, soffits, and other parts of the roof system in order to enter the attic.

Phase 3: We will present the customized action plan to you, explain our findings and the reasons behind our suggestions (e.g. spot cleaning instead of full attic restoration), and answer all of your questions in a clear, honest and direct manner. Please remember: there are no bad questions!

Phase 4: Once you are completely comfortable with the customized action plan and we have answered all of your questions, then our experts will get to work making things right. This work may include removing all materials and (animal droppings and contaminated insulation),  Installing new insulation (at R38-value) so that your attic is both safe, energy efficient and functional. If you are restoring your attic as part of an insurance claim, we can work directly with your insurance company to make the process as efficient and simple for you as possible.

Phase 5: Once your attic is fully restored per the customized action plan, we conduct additional follow-up inspections to ensure and confirm that there are no lingering issues or possible risks.

Below, we highlight some key information that you and your family must be aware of if nuisance wildlife have damaged your attic, or are up there damaging it right now:

Stay Out of the Attic!

Never attempt to go into your attic and attempt to clean-up feces and urine! Not only could you expose yourself and your family to possible diseases, but you may spread the contaminants deeper into your insultation and attic — which could attract even more nuisance wildlife and turn what is already a difficult problem into a major nightmare. Once you determine that you have some uninvited critters in your attic, the only people who you want going up there are trained professionals who are wearing proper protective gear, and have the proper equipment.

Time is Of the Essence

If your attic has become contaminated, then time is of the essence. The problem will not get better in the winter, regardless of how cold it gets outside. Once feces, and urine are embedded into the insulation, it is there for good unless it is completely and professionally removed and the insulation is replaced. Furthermore, it can take just a matter of days for animals to inflict significant structural damage.

Animal Waste is Especially Dangerous

Animal waste can spread dangerous diseases. For example, bird and bat guano can cause histoplasmosis and lead to cold and flu-like symptoms. Racoon droppings often contain roundworm eggs that can infect humans without causing symptoms, yet lead to severe neurological problems. For more information on possible diseases in ur attic contact the CDC at cdc.gov

It May Cost Less Than You Think

Unlike some other companies, we never use “scare tactics” to sell services. Our goal is to help you fix the damage and reclaim your attic back as quickly, effectively and affordably as possible. As noted above, when it is possible, we will recommend spot cleaning and/or partial attic reconstruction instead of a full attic restoration. We will also provide you with advice and recommendations to help you avoid having to deal with nuisance wildlife in the future (in your attic or anywhere in your house/property).

We Are Here for You

We know that the idea of feces, urine, and other threats in your attic is unsettling to you and your family — or just plain terrifying. Be assured that throughout this process, our experts are here for you every step of the way. We will keep you completely informed, answer all of your questions, and ensure that you feel confident about our work. The best reward for us is having you say: “Finally, my family can get a peaceful night’s sleep because we are not worried about what is going on up in the attic anymore!”
